Under international law Copyright is AUTOMATIC. The very moment someone creates a drawing, design or piece of work be it written, artistic, dramatic, film, sounds, musical or even the typographical arrangement of published editions, it becomes the copyright of the creator. Or in the case of an employee undertaking such work as part of their job, it becomes the copyright of the employer.
Originally taken from a concept of common law copyright was first introduced in the United Kingdom in 1709. After the passing of the copyright Act 1911 it became statutory and the latest law is the Copyrights, Designs and Patents Act 1988.
The sign & Print Centre Limited are committed to maintaining the rights of creators and will refuse to reproduce anything that we may consider to be infringing the rights of the creator. We may ask for written confirmation that you are the owner of the copyright before accepting any order.
MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT COPYRIGHT
Do not think that everything that you see on the internet is “Public Domain” and can be used. It may be publicly available but you certainly can’t just use it!
Do not think that you can simply change a part of the design as this is simply classed as “Derived Work” and the bottom line is that the copyright holder can claim any money that you make from using it!! A sobering thought before you go copying a drawing from the internet and using it.

Our tip is to start with a blank sheet and either create the design yourself or pay someone to do it for you. It can be a very expensive exercise contravening copyright law.
